Two Advanced and Literate Roleplayers wanted

Hey there, Shan?! Nice to see you poking around RolePlayGateway - it's even better to see you making roleplays. xD

Anyways, m'name's Sato, and I'm a long-time member here on the forums. I've just got a suggestion on your Roleplayers Wantd thread - spice it up a bit!

When users (potential players of your story!) come wandering through this subforum, give them a bit more information on what their getting themselves into. A good Roleplayers Wanted thread hits the following points:

Who you are, your history as a RP-er.
The story you're trying to tell; characters, goals, conflict, consequences for meeting or failing to meet that goal.
Something that draws the reader into the action and makes us feel like we have to put the time in to make a character and join.

If your thread isn't leaving your readers thinking -- "WOW, I must join this story so I can be a part of what happens next!" then you're not doing your job right. Just slapping down a link to your IC content, and saying "we need 'literate' roleplayers" won't get the job done. xDD Take some time and introduce us to your world, so that we can feel validated taking our time and entering your world.

Hope that helps! Best of luck finding players!

-VV

China calls on Europe for talks over carbon charge (AP)

BEIJING ? China called on the European Union on Thursday to heed objections to its plans to charge airlines for carbon emissions and to hold talks with opponents.

The charges, which took effect Sunday, are aimed at curbing emissions of climate-changing gases but airlines oppose them as an improper tax. The ratings agency Fitch warned last month the conflict could spiral into a global trade dispute.

"China opposes the EU forcing through unilateral legislation," said a foreign ministry spokesman, Hong Lei. "We hope the EU side will be prudent and practical and deal with this issue through consultations with all relevant parties."

The appeal came even after a European court last month rejected a lawsuit brought by U.S. airlines and supported by governments including China and India.

Beijing could have unusually strong leverage in a possible dispute because its state-owned airlines carry large numbers of Chinese and other Asian tourists to Europe. Any disruption would hurt Europe's travel industry when the continent is struggling with a debt crisis and high unemployment.

Under the European system, airlines flying to or from Europe must obtain certificates for carbon dioxide emissions. They will get free credits to cover most flights this year but must buy or trade for credits to cover the rest.

Last month's ruling by the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg dismissed arguments that the system infringes national sovereignty or violates aviation treaties.

Environmentalists welcomed the program, one of the most far-reaching measures adopted by any government to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Although only 3 percent of total human-caused carbon emissions come from aircraft, aviation is the fastest-growing source of carbon pollution.

The European Union has said the added costs would amount to a few dollars per ticket and would open the way for efficient airlines to make money rather than lose it.

Already this week, Delta Air Lines Inc. added a $6 charge per round trip on tickets sold in the U.S. for travel to Europe and Deutsche Lufthansa AG said it will raise prices but not right away.

Fitch Ratings warned last month that possible retaliation "will pose growing threats to aviation market access" in both developed and emerging markets. It said that might affect authorizations for routes and landing slots.

Chinese airlines have not decided whether to add a ticket surcharge, said Chai Haibo, deputy secretary-general of China Air Transport Association, an industry group.

Asked whether Chinese carriers might refuse to pay the charges, Chai said, "It has not come to that stage yet."

A trade group for U.S. carriers, Airlines for America, has said its members would comply "under protest," while reviewing legal options.

Iowa GOP voters see Romney as best Obama opponent

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won strong support Tuesday from Republicans seeking a candidate who can topple President Barack Obama in November's elections and from those most concerned about the weak economy, according to an entrance poll of GOP voters attending Iowa's presidential caucuses.

Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, countered with solid backing from tea party supporters, religious voters and those who ranked abortion as their paramount campaign issue.

Each candidate's reservoir of support helped explain a night in which Romney and Santorum were running neck and neck ? and ahead of their four other competitors ? in the year's first votes as Republicans started selecting their presidential nominee.

Running third was Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who scored highly with young voters, independents and people concerned about huge federal budget deficits.

Given a choice of four qualities they wanted in their party's nominee, about 3 in 10 said they wanted someone who could defeat Obama this fall. Forty-nine percent of that group said they were backing Romney, more than twice as many as cited any other candidate.

"I like Santorum's character and values. But I like Romney's experience and record," said Jeff Young, a salesman from Waterloo, Iowa, who said he was split between the two before Tuesday's caucus. "He's best-positioned in the most ways to compete with the other party."

Santorum, whose candidacy surged in recent days while emphasizing family and faith, was leading among those seeking a candidate with strong moral character, with 39 percent picking him. Santorum and Paul, a libertarian, were running about evenly among those who said they wanted a true conservative as their standard bearer.

Nearly 3 in 10 supporters of the conservative tea party movement were supporting Santorum, and about the same proportion of born-again or evangelical voters were also backing him. That gave Santorum a clear lead among both groups, important because each account for about 6 in 10 Iowa GOP caucus goers.

Santorum's recent burst of popularity was spotlighted by the entrance poll, which showed he was backed by a third of all voters who said they made their decisions in recent days ? more than any other contender.

Only about 1 in 7 voters said abortion was the issue that mattered most when they picked a candidate, but an overwhelming 57 percent of them were backing Santorum.

Asked the campaign's top issue, about 4 in 10 named the economy. Romney led among that group with support from about a third of them, underscoring the appeal of his background running an investment company before entering politics and his emphasis during the campaign on his business experience.

Romney entered the caucuses widely viewed as the favorite to ultimately win his party's nomination, and the opinions expressed by voters in Tuesday's entrance poll underscored his strengths and weaknesses in the GOP contests ahead.

Besides his perceived strength as an Obama opponent and among those worried about the economy, Romney was running ahead of his rivals among the 42 percent of Iowa caucus voters who were not born again or evangelical Christians. He was also doing well among those age 65 and up, people earning $100,000 annually or more and the 53 percent who said a business background was more important than government experience to be an effective president.

But only 56 percent of Romney's backers voiced strong support for him, a weaker show of enthusiasm than his other chief rivals. He was also running poorly among those considering themselves very conservative, the most ardent tea party backers and born-again and evangelical voters ? a crucial portion of GOP voters in South Carolina and some other states in upcoming nominating contests.

Paul had the backing of 48 percent of voters under age 30 and nearly as many independents, giving him large leads in both categories. That could be good news for Paul in New Hampshire, where independents represented almost 4 in 10 voters in that state's 2008 GOP presidential primary. Nearly a quarter of Iowa's GOP voters Tuesday were independents, up from 2008, so their proportion in New Hampshire might grow this year as well.

About a third of GOP caucus goers said they were most concerned about budget deficits, and 3 in 10 of them picked Paul, more than any of his rivals.

Romney, Santorum, Paul and Texas Gov. Rick Perry were running roughly evenly among one-fourth of voters who said campaign advertising played an important role in choosing a candidate ? a testament to the millions in TV advertising that blanketed Iowa in the weeks leading up to Tuesday's caucuses.

The survey was conducted for AP and the television networks by Edison Research as voters arrived at 40 randomly selected caucus sites in Iowa. The survey involved interviews with 1,737 caucus-goers and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

96% Tomboy

Tomboy was a powerful French film of director Celine Sciamma , which brought a good character study of a 10 year old girl. Played by Zo? H?ran, she was Laura who moved into a new town and introduced herself as a boy. The film created a moving portrait of a lonely girl longing for acceptance, being very quiet, mostly observations she did, as she adapted herself to her new world. She maintained being the boy only to make friends but then it draw her in nothing else then complications. It think it was difficult to capture the simple, honest, and often cruel world of children, but Sciamma showed a natural ability to come with perfect dialogue and she directed these children so well that it all came to perfection.Obviously things won't end well, but when Mikael was finally discovered it was refreshingly believable, showing that people could get hurt, and it was painful to watch when it comes to children. But still it ended with a hopeful note. It's an uplifting, and such powerful film.
